I have an upcoming orientation with a 3 letter agency and I was curious if HR actually runs credit checks / background checks during this period or if this is just the time when HR scans documents and uploads your information?

I have been cleared for the position for months but my credit score has recently dropped from 650 to 630. I doubt that’s a big deal but I know that HR technically is responsible for suitability determinations.

If there is a lag to hiring, they sometimes run a new credit check at the HR level. Under continuous evaluation your credit can be checked daily. Im assuming new job improves finances and you can get caught up. Keep meticulous records until you are.
