# Old buisness debt and security clearance

So i had a buisness back in 2016 i ran up alot of debt around 40k couldnt pay for credit cards and loans it was under my name and havent paid since 2017 closed buisness early 2018 i have made steps to improve my life and not live beyond my means and any new credit cards ive paid on time since than my question is do i have a chance at obtaining a security clearance?also credit is 628 idk if that helps

If those debt are in your name then they are your responsibility and you are going to have to show that you are a responsible person and are taking the necessary steps to satisfy your financial obligations. If you have no intention to pay your financial obligations I highly doubt you’ll be given a clearance because you won’t be seen as responsible.

What is the current status of that debt from 2016? Sounds like it was never paid off. Is it in collection? Was it written off? I can’t say if you will or will not be granted a clearance but from the information you’ve provided here, it sounds like an issue that will come up during the investigation and will need to be explained in detail.

10k in collection rest charged off i was never able to pay anything past 2017 i did try to consolidate but right as i was ready to sign the paper work my job shut down and i was jobless for over a year but now i have a solid job a little in my savings
