I know that it varies from agency to agency. I’ve read that suitability is judged separately from clearance eligibility for 3 letter agencies. In the experience of investigators here, does 10+ years also, on average, help mitigate suitability concerns as it does for clearances?
As you noted, suitability and clearance are two different things. Suitability has nothing to do with your investigation. It’s determined by the agency and depends on the position that you are being considered before. Time certainly plays into it. Drug use ten years ago will be looked at differently from drug use last week but in some cases, ANY prior drug use will result in a suitability denial.
