The employer will be contacted either by mail or in person depending on the level of clearance you are being investigated for. You can’t hide the lie, it will come out during the investigation.

Which means they sent letters to your employer (and others) already. One of the questions asked is your position within that employment.
There are more than one type of public trust investigations. A T2 investigation will obtain employment information by mail and a T4 will obtain the record by the investigator contacting the employer. Either way, the truth will come out.
