Mother foreign association, TS/SCI

Hello, I am a natural born US citizen undergoing TS/SCI clearance. My parents are also US citizens, but were born in India and came to the US in 1992. They’ve lived and worked in the US their whole lives, but the past few years my mom has gone back and forth over contested family land in India. She’s been in court often and even had false harassment cases filed against her by her own family. Would this be a deterrent to attaining a TS/SCI clearance for myself?

It might slow things down a little bit but I don’t think it would prevent you from getting the clearance. Be prepared for some additional questions. I suspect the investigator will ask if you yourself have any interest in that land or have any other foreign holdings (property, bank accounts, etc).

Depending on the agency, they may ask about your mother’s foreign property/associations, but MOST will not. Keep in mind they are investigating you, not your family members. Unless you have foreign property, associations, being that your parents are US citizens, I do not believe it will come up. The investigator should ask if you have any connections to foreign nationals due to your parents having been born in India. (grandparents, cousins, aunts/uncles, etc).

Hope this helps.
