According to this LinkedIn news article, the position of background investigator is the 15th fastest growing role in the US for 2026.
Well that’s certainly… interesting.

This was based off of LinkedIn posts, there are tons of background investigator role solicitations, but the workforce at large in the government space at least is significantly contracting.
