Over 5 years ago I voluntarily went to treatment for drugs and alcohol, got sober, turned my life around, and went back to school to pursue engineering. About to get my degree and got an engineering job that requires a clearance. I have a clean criminal record except one misdeamor (drunk in public) that happened over 10 years ago that got dismissed. Drugs and alcohol never affected my work. I have good finances. After 2 -1/2 years sobriety, I tried cannabis to help me sleep in a state where it is legal, and it never affected my school or job, but i stopped 2 years ago. I can show proof of successful rehab completion, a letter from my drug counselor, and a letter from my AA sponsor, and friends talking about how I changed my life around. What are my chances of getting a security clearance?
Sounds like you mitigated most everything so I would go for it. Just FYI, it does not matter where you did the cannabis (legal state or not). It is still illegal at the federal level and that is what the adjudicators look at. But again, sounds like you took all the steps you need to. Good luck.
Is that true anymore, meaning for someone who does not currently hold any clearance? Still I think there needs to be some period of complete abstention and these days it is a lot less than two years, at least for infrequent use.
