Hello I took my poly couple months ago with FBI, and failed. My HR rep said I should be receiving some type of correspondence that comes from HQ and i should be allowed to submit an appeal. Does this mean the job is long gone? I dont think ill continue to go forward after this since i failed
Indeed, you are not going to get the job.
If you are notified of an option to appeal the polygraph results, then this would be a significant change in policy. To my knowledge, no federal agency has any formal process for applicants to contest polygraph results.
Typically, failing an FBI polygraph results in a lifetime blacklisting from FBI employment.
When you receive written notification of the polygraph results, I recommend that you write back and simply affirm that you told the truth (assuming that is the case). Your correspondence should be added to your FBI file and will document the fact that you do not tacitly concur with the outcome.
Incidentally, I am hosting an online meetup tomorrow (Saturday, March 8th) from 2-4 PM Eastern Time for discussion of polygraph-related topics. You (and anyone else reading this) are welcome to join us, if you like. No sign up or account creation is required, and you may participate anonymously if you prefer. Simply point your web browser during that time window to:
If they send a " Statement of Reason" yes you can appeal and yes you can overcome. As Anti mentioned “assuming you did not lie”. If they have you dead to rights, you ommitted key info or told an untruth causing you stress readings…I would say end of road. Not from initial issue as many things can be mitigated, but from willingness to not list it on form, or maintain you did not do something…they frown on people going to great lengths to lie. If you did. If you did not, absolutely appeal.
