Five week training u paid?

Applying for a contractor background investigation position and was told the five week training was unpaid. Is that normal?

Are you applying to an independent contractor position or to work for a company? I was trained as an employee and had paid training.

If you are going to be an Independent Contractor, then yes that is normal. The IRS rules state that if “training” is paid you are an employee, not a contractor.

I asked for clarification because unless you are a Fed we are ALL contractor background investigators, some of us are employed by defense contractors and some are independent but all are contractors.

Yea, the wording is confusing. I liked it better when we were “special investigators” : )
