Well, I see this is a topic that has been discussed a few times. I have held a clearance since 2003, I have had both DOJ and DOD TS/SCI clearances. My latest job required a TS/SCI and SAP. My first SAP. Like I have seen in other posts, the SAP was denied even after my TS/SCI was just reinvestigated and passed at the same time I was being processed for the SAP. I am pretty sure the reason is due to my wife’s family all being Naturalized Citizens and her Aunt who is not had just visited before I started the job, so I put that on the SF-86 and SAP form. So, for anyone who has been denied a SAP, has it impacted your Secret or TS clearances in a negative way? I am hoping to find out by next week, but I just wanted to know what to prepare for. 23 years in this game and multiple reinvestigations have not had an issue, but I understand that the SAP is high up, and from what I knew about the project it was for, it was some pretty important stuff. So I can understand the point of view from the customer. Let me know, and I will keep you all informed.
I have not had to deal with this in years but I was on a project once that had a SAP piece (which i was not read into) and it was very hard to get into that project just because of the very small number of slots or billets they had. Didn’t help that we were a sub. So it is possible you got turned down just because you were not deemed to be a critical enough resource to get a slot.
We had a number of people turned down for that SAP and I don’t think it ever impacted any of them in terms of other clearances and/or accesses.
Agreed, SAPs are adjudicated based on slots available as well. If you were denied clearance SAP based on other factors you would have to tell us. But, i believe getting denied SAP, is the same as being denied SCI. Hopefully that’s not the case.
Let us know what you find out.
