Hello,
I was in the military for four years where SSBI was active but no clearance.I am in reserve now and unit wants to redo the clearance. However, the messy part is I got married, and in very very short span the marriage was annulled as well.Should I report them ? Will it affect my clearance reinvestigation? I already asked the lawyer once and his reply was that for secret only credit level is checked. If someone clarifies the situation, it would be great.
Lawyer is VERY WRONG! You have no choice but to disclose it or you’re not being honest. As far as your issue, it’s no big deal. People divorce daily. Report it, explain it and move on. You will be fine.
Thanks.Doing it right away.
Smart move. I am a former military personnel security specialist and current Background Investigator.
This is another lesson here . . . My guess is that you asked your divorce attorney? You need to talk to a clearance attorney if you have a clearance question. There’s just no substitute. The advice of this lawyer could have cost you your clearance or, at the very least, caused a long delay and a lot of trouble for you. He should have known enough to tell you that he didn’t know the answer.
I called the security specialist for the unit.I was told to send those information in an email with my signature and date.He said he will update it in SF86 as soon as he received it. Onus is on me to update the personal records. Thanks for your reply.
Honestly I don’t know who to contact. I came across this forum fortunately. Thanks for showing me the direction.
