Agreed. When you terminate people in the manner they are doing, those people don’t all react meekly and go away quietly. Especially, if they are people who perhaps voted for this administration and did not expect true follow through on outrageous unreasonable promises. The term going “postal” came out of a federal firing.
For federal topics, we just made FedWork.Net by ClearanceJobs: https://www.fedwork.net/
Looks like the only way to weather this storm is to bend over and say, “thank you sir, may I have another?”
How else is someone supposed to withstand a career in the federal government?
The latest email from Musk is so weird… Dept heads are telling workers not to respond, and others are telling them to reposed like RFK… I think it may be a trIck tbh… They are so hell bent to get rid of everyone.
If the hours are actually worked then they will get paid. There is no question about that. They have to wait to see if UNworked hours will be paid out, which traditionally, they have been. Like those furloughed (using sick leave, PTO, etc.). Not paying out hours worked is a 13th Amendment violation. The payment for hours worked will not be received during the shutdown so the payment may be late, but it is coming.
It’s great that you are so positive. But there is a “crime clause” in the 13th. I think there are lots of QUESTIONS about pay. It’s pretty clear that all the rules are changing with this administration and I can assure you that many many government workers (Trump voters and non voters) realize there are no assurances they will get paid for any worked hours during a shut down. It’s clear this administration doesn’t really care about whether or not something is a constitutional violation. They just do it, fight it, and see if a judge blocks their actions and if the judge does block or prohibit it…perhaps they will comply or perhaps not. Very worrisome.
You’re right, there is a crime clause in the 13th amendment, which is the entire point. The government cannot impose servantude except as punishment for a crime. People get too worked up without the knowledge on how things work. There are still plenty of reasons to stress though, all your bills may be late waiting on your check, you may have to live on credit awhile, you may not have credit options available , etc… For people who are furloughed and do not have hours worked, hopefully y’all get back paid. For all the essential workers, I hope y’all can stay afloat until the government opens back up. When I was an essential federal employee I would always make sure I had 3 months or so between savings or credit available to stay afloat in case of a shut down.
I think what weeble is saying is that you are assuming the gov will follow the law. FWIW, this admin does have a history (going back to the previous term) of testing the laws until they get sued. Then if they lose in court, they also have a history of ignoring the judge’s orders wherever possible. I actually think there is some benefit in all this. It has exposed many of the biggest gaping holes in our federal laws. Unf, it doesn’t seem like there is any interest in fixing those holes so far…
There are multiple cases from the past of the 13 amendment being abused/manipulated for forced labor, racial discrimination, and convict leasing. This administration knows how things have “worked” in the past and the “people” who know history are deservedly “worked up” because they know history. The firing of all the military JAGs is the thing to really get “worked up” about though.
Russell Vought, the new head of OPM, apparently sent out a email yesterday to Department heads asking for an organizational outline and stated there will be mass firings again soon.
Actually federal employees doing BIs make more money than Contractors. They get annual cost of living increases and know of BI agents who make over 6 figures after being with the job after several years. As contractors we haven’t seen raises in 5 years.
Yes that’s right, depending on the grade that you come in and locality, you could be making 6 figures in 1 to 3 years.
Level 4s at CACI make over six figures.
What is the WTD’s per day for a Level 4?
It definitely can go both ways. Contractors can get nice bonuses and higher 5-6 level investigators can certainly make 6 figures. The job security (that is now gone), pensions and extra time off the feds get is/was the best benefit.
5.3 if your area is deemed “suburban” and 6 if it’s deemed “urban”.
Never heard of this before.
Bill Clinton fired 377,000 federal employees but not a peep from anyone huh? But he was praised Hypocrisy. If you only understood where our tax dollars went you would be begging for cuts. But if y’all want to keep paying 30% or more in federal income tax (depending on your salary) to fund government waste, then you should rethink basic economics.
If you were alive during the Clinton era there was certainly lots of peeps during the government downsizing and RIFs in the military. There were peeps but people were treated much more respectfully. It appeared to be a much more calculated strategic process. I understand a VERY Large majority of my tax dollars and the US budget go to medicare and social security. Look at the numbers.
