If my Tier 5 investigation/clearance is denied, could that affect my existing Tier 4 High Risk Public Trust determination or cause me to lose my current job?
Yes it could, but it depends on the issue(s) that cause the security clearance denial. Public Trust and National Security Clearance determinations use different (but similar) sets of eligibility standards (5 CFR 731.202 vs. SEAD 4). For example 5 CFR 731 has no eligibility standard for Foreign Influence, Foreign Preference, or Outside Activities. Job loss is strictly up to the employer.
