25 y/o received CJO for GS-13

25 with 2 years of experience and a BS degree with a secret clearance received a CJO for a GS-13 equivalent (GG pay scale) IT Specialist (Data Management) position at a IC agency that requires at TS clearance.

Interviewers didn’t ask any technical questions to assess my knowledge, just a bunch of situational and personality questions. I was told during the interview that they need someone to come in and run Python scripts (I’ve ran Python scripts but never actually coded entire scripts), however, the job description that I was sent post interview talked about working with sql databases (I haven’t worked with SQL since college and I told them that I wanted to develop my sql skills). Strangely enough, at the end of the job description, it lists tableau as one of the skills they are looking for, which I have a pretty good amount of experience working with.

I’m worried that I am under qualified or that my technical knowledge won’t be enough since most GS-13 are years into their career. Should I be worried?

Being fully experienced in every aspect of the job is not really realistic for anyone in tech as the field moves fast and new things are constantly being invented. Not that SQL is new, but learning on the job is normal. If you feel it is within your ability to learn, and you won’t be “on your own”, there is nothing wrong with being the junior member of the team and being slower at the job because you are constantly looking things up.
Tech salaries in certain government organizations tend to get bumped up a grade because they can be harder to fill. Also, some agencies have a large training budget and plan to use it.
Overall, I wouldn’t worry about it. If you think you can be proficient within a year, you’ll probably e fine.

Take the job.

You’re having imposter syndrome. They clearly think you deserve the job.

You’ll likely get a lot of training. but also now’s the time to start reviewing sql stuff and strengthening the skills you feel weak on.

So only have a BS degree and the position is DCIPS which means because it’s a 2210 series, they add extra money to your salary to compete with the private industry
