CAC card number for Precheck?

Has anyone out there successfully substituted their CAC card number for their personal (paid for from personal funds) Precheck/global entry number?

I tried doing so on one airline in the hopes of a FA seeing it, thinking I was military, and comping me drink. Yes low grade stolen valor as I am a DoD contractor who has never served in uniform.

But instead my CAC number is not recommended at all and I have to stand in line with the poors. No bueno but probably just punishment for my attempt at stolen valor.

What are the experiences of others using their CAC number?

Contractors can’t use their CAC number for TSApre. It’s only military or DoD Civilians

Just FYI, DOD numbers dont change. If you served in military, that number would be the same if you transitioned to Contractor or Civilian. There would be no way to tell what their status is.

I beg to disagree; I had TSA precheck as a civilian employee but it doesn’t work anymore now that I have retired.

I’m sure TSA implemented some process otherwise they might lose out on $80 or whatever

If you are a frequent traveler I would recommend looking at getting an American Express Delta platinum card which will reimburse the fees for both TSA precheck and Global Entry with a statement credit. If you don’t fly Delta I would guess the other airline credit cards may have the same program. There is an annual fee for the card so you need to travel enough so that the companion certificate, free checked baggage, club access etc off set the fee. If you are 1099, get the business card and write off the fee as a tax deduction.

But TSA doesn’t have a DOD ID number.

How long does TSA truly keep the pictures they take these days or do they stay in “Clear”, which is a private company in perpetuity since they don’t have to abide by the same rules?

No but they use the DoD ID number as your frequent traveler number (or whatever its called).
