2022 in military I almost died because my body was not agreeing with itself. Was most excruciating pain I ever experienced. Complications occurred after that moment where other symptoms reoccurred even years after. I had insane anxiety thinking I was going to experience that pain again with multiple strong panic attacks, some requiring sedation.
My gf at the time thought that maybe trying mushrooms would help. First time I had it 2022. 2023, used twice. out of military in 2024 used 3 times and smoked weed in legal state, purchased shroom once, and finally cleared medically that I should be okay. Broke up with gf and nothing since. I don’t even know how to find anyone who sells, it was all through her. Should I just give up looking for clearance job?
I mean, you both used illegal drugs while having a clearance and you used illegal drugs to self-medicate rather than seek the help of a medical professional. You could potentially get dinged for both guidelines H, I, and J. Perhaps enough time has passed to mitigate—I wish you the best should you continue to pursue the clearance.
Time mitigates. Also, if you do some sort of treatment program, that would be a great mitigator and after this amount of time, could be enough to get you through, maybe.
As a rule of thumb, going to great lengths to explain why you violated laws and regs isn’t going to help much. No amount of excuses will move the adjudicators or a judge. But showing you understand it was wrong and learned your lesson might. If you had a legit excuse, and it sounds like you did, you should get all the documentation you can from your healthcare providers to show that you had a good reason to try alternative treatments. Anyone can say “oh but but but I needed to try something.” While no one is going to listen to Joe shmoe, they will probably listen to licensed professionals. Best of luck.
