I used a delta 8 weed vape my sophomore year of high school twice. I didn’t tell my recruiter and than omitted it on sf86 to keep story consistent. I booked an intel job requiring TS. I am going to basic training in 60 days, and have my 2nd interview tomorrow. I want to be truthful, but I don’t know what the repercussions could be. Would I lose my job? Be kicked out of dep? If I have to take it to the grave I will.
How should I go about this? Any input is greatly appreciated.
honestly - if you’re going for intel position, honesty is the best policy and you can say it slipped your mind because your recruiter told you that they don’t go back but 2 years BEFORE your 18th birthday and you tried it once and didn’t like it and never did it again. You’re at the stage where you can blame recruiters because honestly they suck… I have had to do so many recruiter falsification forms because recruiters told recruits not to list a FELONY CHARGE on their paperwork from 6 months prior because “it did not show up on your background check we ran” -
Because he thinks he can “hide” drug usage without anyone else knowing… Until background investigators start asking his high school friends, parents, etc, and it comes up that he used marijuana in high school
Can’t offer any guarantees but go with what @bigdaddyy26 said. There have been a number of cases where “youthful indiscretion” went a long way toward mitigating any concerns.
Same advice, use in high school as a teenager is no big deal and immaturity at the time of non-disclosure. Going forward you should be totally forthright about it and list it on all future SF-86 applications and interviews. It will come out in a polygraph if one is required.
It absolutely will Had employees who lied for years…trip up on poly. Loss of clearance.
My advice is report, and moving forward if within timeline report it. Best to get it out now. High school limited use is a non issue if use free 12 months, and use was experimental.
Had one applicant insist his use was experimental but cited 50 to 60 times…heavy use. Even then, one could still clear if 3 or more years have gone by
Delta 8 was likely legal in both your state and federally at the time of use. 99% sure the sf-86 asks about illegal drugs. I would say anything unless asked directly.
