Is my clearance active?

So here’s my situation. If anyone has any insight, it would be greatly appreciated. This is a very condensed version my story, but main points are in here.

Applied to the MD based agency. Went through background/psyche/poly/etc. June ’24 I received an email stating I completed the hiring process and was presented an FJO. Got orientation date for Feb ’25.

Three weeks before my orientation date I requested to push my start date due to personal life event. I stated very clearly in my email that starting the job with their agency was my priority and if it wasn’t possible to push the start date, not a problem, I’d figure it out and make it work. They got back to me a week before my enter on duty date (EOD) “No problem… here are some additional dates you can choose from”. Made my selection for mid-April. They said “Be on the lookout for your updated FJO.” Had my HHGs scheduled to be picked up and everything ready. A week later I get an email stating that they were rescinding my offer due to 1. My request impacting the organization’s mission and 2. My suitability processing was set to expire a couple weeks before the newly agreed upon EOD. Timing coincided with reported cuts to probationary hires at intel agencies.

Now I’m scrambling to find a job as my career/life has been turned upside down as it has to so many others and applying for contract positions. I’m under the belief (based on what I was told by others who I discussed my situation with) that my TS/SCI- FSP should be able to still be used. But, I’m nervous that I’ll be going through this process only to find out that the agency didn’t “activate” my clearance or input it into SC.
Although, I can’t imagine that happening as by the time they finally got back to me to change my date, I was due to start 7 days from that point- so I’ve got to imagine it’s active in SC and can be found…. Any thoughts/insight?

Check out some of the threads related to NSA hiring, you’ll see a few people who say a contractor was able to hire them based on their recent NSA investigation after their FJO was withdrawn.

I myself get confused over the verbiage but I think at this point you do not have a “clearance” but are “eligible” for access to classified information. As long as a contracting company can see that eligibility they would be able to bring you on board, assuming there’s an opening on one of their contracts that you can fill.

@sbusquirrel, thanks for your response! But yes, I’ve been reading through a bunch of other posts and there is some conflicting information. It seems like the general consensus is that it SHOULD be able to be found if the FSO is putting some effort into it. But there seems to be one user on this platform that is taking the hardline approach that if an individual didn’t EOD (with the NSA) then that investigation/poly/clearance is unusable or findable. But, it’s mostly that particular user that is very hard on that being the case.
