Legit NSA email or phishing?

Two weeks ago I completed a HireVue interview for a position at the NSA. Yesterday I received an email stating that they would be moving forward with me and requesting documents. I am skeptical of this email because:

  • it makes no mention of my name.
  • it doesn’t include the position I’m applying for
  • the documents are pdf’s which I’m guessing I’d have to print and write on and scan or use a digital pdf editor, there’s no official way to request this information?
  • one of the documents requests my SSN
  • why would I send my SSN to an “External” Recruitment and Hiring person
  • cant find any online presence of this person other than a blank linkedin with the only thing listed as NSA recruiter (unverified).

Does this look real? They also did not respond to an email I sent them on the same day (I know its only been one day, but still)
My application on intelligencecareers.gov is in “Interview/Testing”

Thanks for the help

Looks like it is digitally signed by uwe.nsa.gov and that would be pretty hard to fake.

“External” just means applicants who are not already NSA employees.

But you raise a good question about the SSN.

I’m guessing the subject line reads “NSA Employment-HR Forms”? This means you’re probably getting a CJO. This person is your recruiter, and it is legit.

By the way I see all the social media icons on the bottom… but what is that cat-looking thing?

I’m thinking its not TikTok or WeChat…

Its their github, which apparently they have

This looks legit, similar to my emails from them, after you send in docs and everything checks out you should be getting CJO email shortly after.

Legit. Standard email template to kick things off in the hiring process. As to the “external” part, that just means you are an external applicant, as opposed to being current federal employee looking to move up or whatever…

As others have said, this is legitimate. I have definitely been concerned about some of the emails and the way they look, but it is all from their official email addresses.
