I am a current government civilian with an existing TS clearance. I recently married a foreign national from Russia. Her ties are very limited. No family there. Owns an apartment that she is trying to sell. She is eligible for US citizenship in a few months.
I reported all interactions with my security officer as a foreign contact. I recently accepted a position with a major defense contractor using my clearance. Days before starting they found out my spouse was from Russia and rescinded my offer. I spoke with a lawyer who highly recommended I don’t leave government employment or my career will be at risk during my next TS adjudication.
So my question is this…is my clearance at risk due to this marriage and should I simply stay away from defense contractors since they are more likely to fire me if I run into clearance issues? Any tips or suggestions?
