Misleading Listings on ClearanceJobs!

If you’re searching for security clearance jobs on ClearanceJobs.com, you may have noticed something suspicious: the number of “newly posted” jobs often matches the total number of jobs available over the past year.

I’ve been tracking this for years and have noticed that jobs marked as “posted today” are often the same ones I applied to months ago. This suggests that jobs are being automatically reposted or refreshed to make it look like more opportunities are available than there really are.

Why does this matter?
:check_mark: It wastes job seekers’ time – you think you’re applying to a new role, only to realize you’ve already applied.
:check_mark: It creates false hope – job seekers may believe the market is better than it actually is.
:check_mark: It raises transparency concerns – are employers actually hiring, or is this just a way to keep users engaged?

I previously contacted ClearanceJobs about this issue and never received a response. If you’ve experienced the same thing, comment below and share your thoughts. Job seekers deserve better transparency!

That is typical of all job boards. The recruiters update/re-post their listings regularly to keep them fresh. They’ve been doing that since the days of newspaper help wanted ads. The job boards have very little incentive to stop that practice.

Also note that some companies list jobs that they have no intention of filling, while others only list a job when they actually intend to fill it. You may also see a nearly identical job listing from several different companies; this may mean that they are all on the same contract and the first one who submits a resume that the customer approves gets to fill the job.

And by no means is this limited to clearancejobs!

That’s been maybe the worst offender. Companies list jobs they have already promised to someone because they are required by HR to list every job. But the job isn’t REALLY “available.”
