My first time with security clerance

Hello everyone,

I am new to the clearance process. Just wanted to share my timeline to get an idea of how long it will take to get an official start date.

August 2017- I applied for the IASP Scholarship through my Masters program and I was selected.
December 2017- Finished Masters program
April 2018- Received and accepted Tentative Offer.
May 2018- The Personnel Security Investigation Center of Excellence (PSI-CoE) received documentation to process background investigation. Interim was requested. Was told that a possible start date would be at the end of June or beginning of July. Interim was requested and was told that Interims typically take approximately 2-3 weeks.
June 2018- The Interim was granted.

Latest update (6/20/2018)- I was told that “The end of June/beginning of July was an estimated timeframe. We cannot set an official start date until we have received approval from management. Thank you for your patience during this process.”

How much longer will I have to wait to get the official start date? Am I close?

Impossible to say for sure because these things do not go quickly. But hopefully it won’t be too much longer… maybe end of July? That’s just a totally unfounded guess and tries to account for people taking time off for the 4th of July.

Center of Excellence… I always get a kick out of that :laughing:

Yea I hope it wont be much longer. The sooner the better. Its just very difficult for me now because I haven’t worked since October so I’ve been waiting since then.
