Unpaid medical bills would be banned from being included on Americans’ credit reports under a new rule the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau announced that it had finalized on Tuesday, the latest step in a last-minute dash by the agency to wrap up its agenda before the final whistle blows on the Biden administration.
This was mentioned in a blog post here back in June, but now it has taken effect.
The medical delinquent and collection debts would still be reportable on the questionnaires unless there is a change to the requirements.
FWIW, medical debts are rarely what i see in the financial “discussions” over the last couple of decades unless they were part of a bankruptcy. Consumer debt are the normal issues.
I’m not saying medical debts are not brought up but they often come up as a minor issue (often would not have been discussed if they’d been listed on the questionnaire) or were part of a larger financial discussion.
Most of the medical accounts that I see are the result of some sort of billing error with the insurance company and are minor issues that just require the Subject making a phone call to clear up.
