So here’s the deal, I’m a current FAA employee with a tier 2 public trust. In late 2023 I had some an issue where the police had to confiscate a gun from my house and bring me to a mental hospital per a county court order because I was a suicide threat. I only had suicidal ideationz no attempts or harming of anyone else. This came up as a red flag civil court case, which I understood would go into the FBI database and prevent me from purchasing or owning a firearm for 2 years. I didn’t want to be in any database so I started attending therapy and I hired a lawyer.
In mid 2024 I had my court case to decide whether I was a “dangerous individual” and if I should still be a red flag case, it was decided I was not and that everything would be rescinded and I could have my weapon back if I wanted it, which I did not, I let the police department destroy it.
So here’s the question, the sf-86 asks about civil court cases in the past 7 years, say my next background check is July of 2031, this whole thing will have been over 7 years ago at that point, am I okay not mentioning it on the sf-86 at that point?
So far I have not reported anything to my manager as this is not a criminal case or drug related, purely mental health and civil. What are your thoughts?
