Public Trust red flags too much?

I recently accepted a job offer that requires me to get public trust after I have started. I know that public trust is not a clearance but this was one of the only places I could find to ask these questions. Originally I was not to concerned. But after researching a bit I am not sure my chances are looking great. I think I have two or three red flags.

  1. I was arrested about 6.5 years ago for a DV charge. I was not convicted and the charges were dropped. Basically it was during Covid, I was unemployed and my wife and I had our first baby.

My wife and I got into an argument and I attempted to leave for a couple hours and take my child to my parents house. My wife tried to stop me by putting herself between me and the car door. I tried to get her out of the way and she ended up calling the cops and telling them I hit her which was not true. When she told me I should leave because she was on the phone with the cops I didn’t believe her. I grabbed her phone and when I saw she really did I dropped her phone on the ground and waited outside.when the cops got there I told them what happened. They said she said I hit her but she had no marks. They asked me if I hit her and I said no but I was trying to get her out of the way. They said that they had to arrest me and my wife told them that she just wanted them to make me leave but they said it was policy to arrest for DV claims. My wife followed the cop car to the station and after talking to the magistrate I was fingerprinted and released and told my wife could take me home. A week later or so my wife was diagnosed with postpartum depression and she ended up writing a letter to the prosecutor asking them to drop the charges stating that I did not actually hit her. The prosecutor agreed and dropped charges for DV and interfering with emergency communication. This was expunged very soon after and we have not had issues like this since.

  1. I had a collection account open for about a year. I found out after checking my credit earlier this month and I paid it in full and it is getting deleted off my credit.
  2. I have about $9000 dollars in student loan debt but it is in forbearance currently.

I have no recent drug use or anything in the last 7 years. I plan on being upfront and honest about the above. understand that my question is a “crystal ball” question but what do you think my chances of obtaining public trust are? Should I just back out and not take the job? Could I be denied “interim” if that is a thing for public trust?

Based on what you have described, the DV charge is mitigated by time, the collection issue is mitigated by the fact you addressed it and took care of it, and the student loan debt, as long as it is not delinquent, is not an issue. The key is to be totally forthright in documenting these on the SF-85P and if interviewed for the investigation.
