Public Trust Reinvestigation

I currently have a High Risk Public Trust position with GSA. My investigation was completed in 2023.

That same year, I went through a separation and had to move to another state. Between the move and everything else going on, I fell behind on my credit cards and ended up with four charge-offs.

In 2024, I settled and paid off all four accounts. I have documentation showing they’re all settled, and my credit score is now around 750. Since then, I’ve completely turned things around and now pay my credit cards in full every month, so I carry a $0 balance. I even reported the canceled debt on my taxes using the 1099-C I received.

I read GSA’s self-reporting policy, and the requirement to report delinquent debt applies to employees with Secret clearances or other national security positions, not to my Public Trust position. Because of that, I didn’t self-report the charge-offs. I also haven’t heard anything through continuous vetting.

I’ve actually been enrolled in continuous vetting since November 2024, and I still haven’t been contacted or notified about the charge-offs.

My next reinvestigation is in 2028, and I will be completely honest about what happened. I have all the paperwork showing the accounts were settled.

Has anyone here been through a GSA High Risk Public Trust reinvestigation or worked in personnel security? Do you think this is likely to be a problem, or does the fact that everything has been resolved, my credit score has recovered, I carry a zero balance on my credit cards each month, and I’ve been enrolled in continuous vetting since November 2024 without being contacted put me in a decent position?
