Public trust secretary clearances and 4 year old debt

I e been in a federal job for 10 years and they now want me to get a public trust clearance. I had an FMLA in 2019 that pretty much bankrupted me. Most of the accounts are settled or paid off. I did have a default judgement and three accounts are still open sold to junk debt buyers. I plan to let them age out. Will I pass this clearance? Will I be forced to pay these junk debt buyers and hurt my credit score that I e worked so hard on? Everyone’s telling me it’ll be fine but I don’t think they know what they’re talking about. I’m a librarian who sometimes posts on an intranet and sometimes gives tech support.

First of all, there is no such thing as public trust clearance. Second of all, yes you need to address any unresolved debt. There is no such thing as “aging out” to the government. If it belongs to you, and it’s unpaid, then it’s delinquent.
