Reactiving an Expired TS/SCI CI Poly

Hello,

I’m looking for guidance on how to reactivate my TS/SCI with CI Poly clearance.

Background:

I separated from the military in 2022 and joined a tech company in 2023, where I was CCA-approved that same year. However, my CCA was rescinded in 2025 after I was unable to pass my full-scope polygraph. My security team has since informed me that my clearance is now inactive or expired.

Over the past few weeks, I’ve been searching online to see if anyone has been in a similar situation, but I haven’t found much information. Has anyone experienced something like this?

What’s the best path to reactivate my clearance? My goal is to regain my TS or TS/SCI. Should I apply for Secret-level positions first and work my way back up, or is there a more direct route?

Thank you for taking the time to share any advice or insight.

May I ask, how many tries did you get? And do you know if it was the government or your company that pulled the plug? I know a guy who is currently in a similar situation. He’s had two “unsuccessful” polys so far and, as of the the shutdown, had not heard anything about even being invited back.

Just keep applying for jobs at whatever level you can find them. Yes, applying for Secret might be a better way to start.

Good luck!

May I ask how many attempts you were given?

I was allowed four.

Also, do you know whether it was the government or your company that made the final decision to stop the process?

In my case, the government decided not to move forward with me at this time but mentioned that my sponsoring company could resubmit me into the process. I’m still waiting on their decision.

Update:

A contracting company recently reached out about a Secret-level role and informed me that my clearance appears to be active. I’m now planning to apply with several other contractors to see if that status is consistent across the board.

Since you failed your full-scope polygraph, do you know if you’re still eligible to hold a CI poly? Are you able to say if there was any adverse impact on your TS/SCI CI Poly clearance, or was the poly inconclusive?

@theawesomejay123

They stated that I passed the CI portion of the polygraph, so as far as I know, I’m still eligible to hold a CI poly.

During my debrief, they made it clear that I still retained my clearance and that there was no adverse impact—only a suspension of the clearance process.

At this point, I don’t think it’s worth waiting or attempting the full-scope poly again. It might have been a bit ambitious of me to aim for the FSP.
