For context I am applying for a non-sensitive/low-risk job that I would have to move to and that probably requires just the basic sf-85. I have never had to do a background check that is this intensive and I have a few questions about these past terminations I have. I understand it is only for the past 5 years so this is my work history. I plan on being 100% honest and if interviewed I will tell everything.
2021 - Worked for Firehouse Subs for like 6 months and left on good terms to pursue this next job. This should not be a problem at all.
2022 - The main problem: I worked as a contract fraud specialist for a major bank for about a year. During this time, more and more responsibilities were thrust upon me and me being young and lazy wanted to lighten the load. We were given a set amount of files to look at each day on top of the rest of workload given. I moved some of these files into another coworkers folder and was somehow caught. HR and the boss went into a teams meeting with me and that was that and was terminated. No letter or any paper work was ever handed to me regarding termination. This was really stupid and this would probably fall under misconduct. I had no intention of doing anything criminal or conspiring against the U.S or something crazy I was just lazy and dumb. I understand this is a big snag and I am truly hoping other mitigating factors will try to even this out.
2023- Got a job working for a point of sales tech firm as a level 1 technician. Worked there for about 9 months. I was fired for performance issues related to laziness and a tough learning curve that was hard to follow. In my defense, I was just kind of thrown into the wolves with this one and didn’t get a lot of help. But yes, I didn’t apply myself hard enough. This is also a stain on my reputation that I understand.
Oct 2023 - Now
I started as an assistant manager at a boot company and at first I was in my old ways and got a write-up after the first few months. Getting that changed the way I think and I did not want to continue this lazy path. I asserted myself in every way possible after that. Took on more and more responsibilities until June of this year and I got promoted into the store manager. I am now consistently with the best stores in the nation in terms of KPI’s and sales and can get stellar reviews from fellow hire-ups and coworkers. Something clicked back in mid of 2023 and I feel as though I am a different person and I want a new life in the government sector.
I have no other issues I would be afraid of in my sf-85. I have no criminal history other than a minor speeding ticket in 2021, no drug use this past year although I did smoke weed until 2023 and stopped. I can gather good references from friends to coworkers and if interviewed I can show how I turned my life around employment wise. I have a friend in the area I plan to move in with if i get this job however, I have been reading even if I get the job, start said job, and the background check takes longer than expected I would have to leave the job because of the failed background check. I do not want that to happen and leave my friend in a bad situation. Please let me know my chances and any other concerns.
