SCI Expiry When Moving to TS Job

What happens when I move from a job that requires TS/SCI to a job that only requires a TS? I understand that my TS will be active, but will my SCI expire 2 years from the day I last used it?

My understanding is the SCI goes with the position/agency. Each agency has their own SCI access list. I don’t “think” there is any reciprocity for SCI but I could be wrong. You would probably have to submit a new access request in EPAS. As for your current SCI still being valid if you return to your current agency later, I believe it expires once your CSO reports you no longer need it, which could be the day you leave or years later. Depends on the CSO.

I think this is going to vary widely from one customer to the next. Some years back I was at a company where they were reading people off SCI access because the customer was cracking down on folks who were still briefed but no longer required it; the security officer said dont worry if something comes up we can reindoc you quickly.

But that was for folks who stayed at the same company and with the same customer.

thanks! In that case, I wanted to know how long my poly would last for in the case I want to leave my current job to pursue different opportunities. I got debriefed last July from the program requiring it.

gotcha that makes sense. I guess a better follow-up/clarifying question is how long my poly will last given that I only use my TS now? I got debriefed from the program requiring it last July

I can only offer my own crackpot theory that the polygraph is not connected to any clearance. That is, if you get a new position requiring a poly they can look it up and see if it is “in scope” which seems to be anywhere from two to seven years or longer.

And your best bet is getting back in with the same agency that did the last poly.

I believe Poly is for suitability, not clearance. Some agencies will accept other’s poly, some will not. NSA and CIA always do their own. They don’t trust anyone else’s.
