Shutdown puts a drag on security clearance process

From Federal News Network:

Shutdown puts a drag on security clearance process

Here’s just a short excerpt; see above link for full article

Background investigations for many government positions, including those that require a security clearance, are continuing to be processed through the government shutdown.

But the Defense Counterintelligence and Security Agency — which conducts approximately 95% of background investigations across government — has paused some normal operations. And those who closely watch the security clearance space are starting to see delays in processing as the shutdown drags on.

DCSA has also warned that certain activities will be “severely halted or degraded” during the shutdown, including processing National Industrial Security Program facility clearances; conducting cybersecurity visits and assessments; and conducting industry background investigations and interim determinations.

I can only assume that similar impacts are being felt at agencies that don’t use DCSA such as the main IC agencies, maybe DHS, probably DOJ, and State.

I got referred earlier this month for an adjudicator position with DCSA and now crickets. Sounds about right after reading this article

“Referred” meaning your application was added to the list for possible interviews? I think that’s called the certificate.

Whatever its called, I’m sure it is in the deep freeze for the time being.

I guess that’s what it means. A real person will now look at my application. They were hiring for 26 spots and only accepted 90 applicants at GG-07/09 level.

I was able to substitute education, so I was referred at the GG- 09 rate. I guess it’s better to be referred at the highest rate for the job ?

We used to have some HR types on the old federalsoup forums who could offer an informed opinion here. But the important point is you are still in the running.
