I am getting mixed answers and it’s frustrating. I work 100% remote on a contract which is extremely rare so I want to try to hold on to the job if possible.
However I am reading that if I stay on such a contract I will eventually lose my TS and be downgraded to secret.
The company that I am contracting at can only clear up to Secret.
What is the reality here? I am applying to every part time role that can hold my TS/SCI out there just in case that I can even entry level roles but can’t get any traction since it’s so bad out there.
If you’re happy with the Secret remote job and it’s safe, then you don’t need the TS. If you need the TS again, I believe you have up to 2 years to re-activate it.
Thanks. Nothing is safe any more. I see that there other posts on this which kind of surprised me. Almost seems like I will lose my TS if I don’t keep it active then?
Used to be, as long as a company had some work at the TS level they could use that as justification for putting you in for a TS when it came time for a reinvestigation. But you say the company only has secret level work… and besides, with continuous evaluation (CE) who knows what will happen.
Hey, just keeping the secret clearance active is still a plus.
I think it’s entirely up to your CSO at the agency where you had TS to submit the request to deactivate your TS when they find out you no longer need it. If they don’t submit the req, nothing happens.
