I applied for a position as an electronics technician with the FBI. I am married to a Japanese citizen. I was told it may potentially be disqualifying since the position requires a TSP/SCI; is this true? I have no other unfavorable information.
It is a concern and may take longer for a decision, but it is not an automatic disqualifier and there have been cases where having a foreign national spouse an individual was still granted SCI access, but be prepared to have it denied.
Thanks for you quick response. Does the country in which the spouse is a citizen of play into it?
Yes, the country of origin is taken into consideration, those that are close allies of the U.S. are considered more favorably due to the concern of coercion using the spouse being mitigated.
