I am filling out an SF-86. I have a one-time issue from a few years ago regarding an inaccurate family-related income record and uncompleted state benefit applications. I want to know how likely it is that I won’t receive my clearance. I’m not trying to hide anything either and want to be as truthful as possible with my application. I am uprooting my family for this job and need to understand what my future looks like
The Situation:
-
Under the advice of an immediate family member who owned a business, an employment record was generated on paper to help me qualify for state benefits. The actual assigned work did not take place, but a payment was issued.
-
After that time, I initiated benefit applications, No government funds were ever paid out to me.
-
Fund were later offset by working for family member
-
The income was reported on my taxes.
My Questions:
-
Given that no public funds were taken, the money was offset with physical labor, and I am disclosing this fully on day one, how is this going to be viewed?
-
Does the fact that I acted under the guidance of an older family member help mitigate the intent? To be completely honest I didn’t completely realize what we were doing until I started my clearance application and had to describe this w2 activity.
-
If you were in my shoes would you continue moving forward with trying to obtain a security clearance.
