VoiP and Fax machines

I am a 1099 and currently still working with USBP (BIs will be a retirement gig). I just moved into a new house (new build) and it does not have a hardline phone line. None of the phone companies are installing landlines in this area and all of the major companies are moving to voice over internet (Voip).

My question is, do any of you know or speculate the end customers will change with the times/technology and allow for fax over Voip?

not sure if this helps but if you’re referring to evidence from the field, most agencies now let you upload documents directly from your GFE mobile device to their system of records.

I’m using Ooma. Works off internet.

We’re barely allowed to use email. We definitely can’t do this.

yeah you’re right, you’re not supposed to use email, at all. You’re supposed to use an approved GFE mobile device to upload over a secure connection. Some agencies may not have that functionality yet but most do.

How long have you been an investigator and know the electronic policy?

I can’t remember anyone using a real hard landline for DCSA work since 2010 to present. Anyone under age 40 probably doesn’t know/understand the difference. What I mean is that VOIP has been the standard for a hard “landline” for the last 15 years.

Too many nuisances that are getting harder and harder with emails restrictions in most cases and a centralized vetted upload mechanism

Thanks for the info and sorry for the newb question, but what is a GFE device?

I have only been doing backgrounds for a little bit and am limited on the contracts I can work since I’m still an active federal LEO.
