Worth Pursuing With My Background

Good afternoon,

I’ve searched around and could not find anything similar to my situation/question and figured it was appropriate to post here. So this doesn’t get too long winded, my question is this - would it be worth my time pursuing a position in the IC or an investigator type of role given potential hurdles on my below background:

  • Working professional in finance in my early 30’s.
  • Regular user of marijuana in a recreationally legal state (I understand it is still federally illegal) and have cultivated on 2 separate occasions for personal use only. No selling, distributing, whatever you want to call it. Did not want to go to dispensary’s or other sources to obtain.
  • 3.8+ GPA with a finance degree.
  • Travel abroad fairly regularly and am competent in a second language.
  • No criminal history, always given high marks in YE reviews at work, never any write-ups etc.
  • Spotless personal financial record.

The obvious thing to me is the mj which I have recently stopped using as I’ve decided this is something I would like to pursue. I guess I’d like to know from the experts if this would essentially be an effort in futility on my part.

Appreciate any insight you all are able to provide.

Happy New Year!

Law Enforcement, it depends on the agency. IC, you have the same chance as everyone else with the information provided.

These days I’d say the foreign travel would attract more attention than the marijuana use. And even that is just a question of providing details (dates, destinations, etc) unless of course you’ve been going to Tehran or Pyongyang

Nobody can say for sure, but people have gotten clearances with a lot more flags than you. They might give you a hard time about the cultivation part.

Generally, the longer it’s been since you last smoked before applying for the clearance, the better.

This is surprisingly much more positive than I anticipated, I appreciate you taking the time for providing a response.
