Accepted USAF PAQ FJO (SF85) but Received TS/SCI TJO from USAF again Before EOD

I accepted a FJO for a PAQ program with the Air Force about 2 weeks ago, and my EOD is Monday, June 1st. That position only requires a Tier 1 background investigation (SF85), and my NBIS/background process is still ongoing.

Yesterday, I received another TJO from the Air Force for a different position that requires a TS/SCI clearance (Tier 5 / SF86). I’m honestly very interested in this second opportunity long term.

My question is: since both jobs are under the USAF, is it possible for them to basically keep my current SF85 process for the PAQ position so I can still start working on June 1st, while separately starting the SF86/TS investigation for the second position?

Has anyone here ever been in a similar situation where they accepted one Air Force position and then got another offer requiring a higher clearance before the first investigation was completed?

I’d really appreciate any advice or shared experiences. Thanks!

PAQ Intern here. Really depends on how long you’re gonna wait. My TS for a PAQ job took about a year to complete. I would say its between 6-12 months to wait. If you get the first job soon, I would let your leadership or your PAQ program manager know you’re interested in another position. They might let you switch they might not.

I am not sure if I understand you. So for a PAQ program you did top secret clearance? Mine it’s just Tier 1 which is public Trust. They launched my background check (Tier 1) for public trust 2 months ago but still running

If you’re asking can you work a PT job while a TS investigation is in process, then you should be able to. I say should because I’m not familiar with USAF regs. But most people are able to work with a PT or a low clearance (PT is not a clearance) while waiting for higher one to complete. You can also ask if the TS cleared job can give you an interim while you wait, if that would work better.
