Are You Experiencing Security Clearance Processing Delays?

I have never had a security clearance before. I travel internationally often.

My clearance level is TS/SCI with poly:

Received Conditional Job Offer - May 2016
Submitted Security Forms - June 2016
Credit pull - July 2016
Contacted by 2 investigators - July 2016
Colleagues and friends contacted by investigators - August 2016
Personal interview with investigator - September 2016

I haven’t heard any updates since Sep 2016. I contacted my recruiter to check on the status and was told that my file is active in the suitability process and my clearance is being worked on. Have no idea what suitability process exactly means. When I asked about specific timeline I was told that it could take between 6-36 months and even longer.
I have never submitted my fingerprints and poly is not completed yet. Is it out of ordinary?

Wow, you’ve been waiting since 2016? Geez, this is just ridiculous. It looks like you moved quickly until the subject interview and things then suddenly stopped, for years. Does anyone know why that happens? How can they expect folks to literally wait for years? What if the billet doesn’t exist anymore?

That has to be a real concern.

I waited 18 months after interview with investigator before I heard anything. That was for a Secret clearance. A TS clearance usually takes longer, so I would think you are close to the end. That is a long wait but doesn’t necessarily mean there is a problem or you won’t be cleared.

But the problem is the billet! I would tolerate a long-ass process if I knew that my billet wouldn’t disappear or be given to someone else. Talk about a potentially totally depressing situation…

Amended…I’ll delete the other one. My timeline for a TS/SCI reinvestigation:

  • August 2016: Submitted SF-86
  • November 2016: Investigation opened; credit pulled
  • December 2017: Interview with an investigator

Waiting…

Met with investigator about four months ago? You have not yet begun to wait

sbusquirrel, I just want it adjudicated in my favor. Believe me, I’m not in a rush! It is a TS/SCI so I’m expecting it to go a while.

I actually got a phone call from the investigator last week asking for contact info for someone back at the Pentagon when I worked there…so we’ll see what happens and if this delays things.

Bishop, will you also be getting a poly? The timelines for everyone are just all over the dang place. There seems to be no system or order… some folks have their poly/psych scheduled soon after the forms are turned in, and then have their ESI months later, and for some, it’s the other way around with the ESI first and then waiting forever to get scheduled for the poly. This sort of inconsistency makes everything extra confusing and tiresome for many of us.

Thanks for the info. I hope that my file is not lost or forgotten

DaVinch, this is a DoD position which doesn’t require a poly (I had one in 2015 on the previous contract but don’t need it now). Waiting for formal questions and/or a SOR.

No poly is great, all the best.

Going to add my status update still:

Submit eqip 4/15
Investigation opened 6/15
Subject Interview 5/16
Investigation closed 12/16
Adjudication 1/17

Silence still

Our timelines are SUPER close. Best of luck the rest of the way!

Update on my timeline for an initial TS

Submitted SF86- August 11th
Told by fso he submitted it mid-September
Heard from NBIB- December 22nd
Interview with investigator - January 5th
2nd investigator requests some college paperwork - January 17th
Told by company that clearance was granted on March 29th earlier this month.

No idea how mine went so fast. Apparently the recruiter and Fso said its the fastest they’ve seen someone get it.

Hey all,

I wanted to post to get an idea of how long I’ll be waiting for regular Secret clearance since it’s already been a while, and you guys have a decent idea of what wait times are like…

9/3/17: EQIP Submitted
10/18/17: Notified I won’t be receiving Interim Clearance

And that’s been that. I haven’t heard any update period since 10/18/17 on my clearance status even after emailing my security POC at my prospective new employer.

Is this normal? It’s been nearly 8 months and I haven’t even been contacted for an interview yet. This seems insane. I’ve had friends waiting on the longer end get everything, clearance and all, between 4-8 months recently.

You need to contact senator or push your fso. Once I did both, I finally saw progress. I told my director I won’t wait forever, and finally they started pushing DSS on why it was taking so long… A few weeks weeks later, I was cleared ts/sci after 22 months

Thanks you too. Hoping for some good news this summer
