Conditional Offer of Employment Rescinded?

Asking the community for some genuine feedback today.

We regret to inform you that your Conditional Offer of Employment has been rescinded effective immediately.

Please note that this decision does not represent a security clearance denial. When filling out the Standard Form 86 in the future, you should note that you were not denied a security clearance for this specific position.

I was told on Tuesday by my recruiter that I just cleared medical/psych. She was surprised that a start date was not yet assigned to a background investigator for my BI. I did the two day on site in DC early June.

If this wasn’t a security denial, can I assume there were no issues with my FS Poly? Given that goes up with my BI to adjudication, if this isn’t a security denial would there now not be an SOR?

I’ve heard from a few others that their COEs were rescinded this morning, what is going on?

Damn man, sorry to hear this update. Did you get this notice on your applicant portal? I responded in the other thread, but this seems like a suitability denial to me, but im not an expert in this area by any means. I’m going to assume without a BI being started yet, it had to be something on the poly/psych/medical, despite what your recruiter said. Something was found during your security appts that was a no go for the agency.

If it is indeed a suitability denial, my understanding is that you wont get a SOR and it doesnt count as a clearance denial, meaning you could still apply to other IC agencies without that on your ā€œresumeā€ so to speak.

There could be a slight chance this was due to the job role you are processing for, not being available anymore, but I dont think that is common with this agency. They dont take the time and effort to process you to just take away the role…even in today’s climate. Again, just my personal opinion, based on stories I hear internally.

You could try to get more info from your recruiter, but I honestly doubt you will get much info.

Yeah didn’t get much out of the recruiter.. I’m assuming it’s time to pack up and move on? If it was a suitability denial I’m guessing there is likely no future way of overcoming that? Has anyone ever seen that happening?

Concur that the message reads like a suitability denial; I’m sorry. Your recruiter has absolutely zero insight into the security process; he/she telling you that you ā€˜cleared’ parts of the security process is pure conjecture and if he/she actually said that, it was grossly irresponsible on their part. Only you know what was divulged during the polygraph, so there’s not much anyone here can do to give you insight on that front, nor can the recruiter. All that said you can reapply in a year and this will have no bearing on your ability to apply for other IC jobs.

Appreciate the note. All good vibes. It could have been a million things, one would never know, so for peace I’m going to try and not even speculate as to what could have been the concern.

Have you honestly ever seen someone get hired post suitability denial? Just curious if it’s even worth entertaining. Again circumstantial…I don’t even know what might have not been suitable or not haha

At other agencies? Yes, many cases in fact. At the same agency that issued the denial I do not know.

I called them back and was told I was not a suitability or clearance denial, so I have absolutely no idea…

Was told ā€œfutureā€ meant I could apply for other types of roles. I did not have a 12 month ā€œholdā€ this was shared by two separate individuals.

@RandomMan any ideas?

I got nothing, assuming that what they said is accurate, maybe it’s just that they arent hiring for that specific role right now? Just seems odd they wouldnt offer maybe another job role that you could be qualified for.

Purely speculation, maybe it’s budget related, lots of unknowns with staffing budgets I would imagine, as we head into the new FY26. I know the second round of VERA is coming around also. It’s just wild times right now, sorry you are dealing with all of this.

Silver lining, doesnt sound like you would be on any sort of unofficial blacklist, and that you may indeed have a legit chance of getting in down the road.

Yeah man I’m hopeful. Going to reset for a few months and see where I am at in life. For more context, I had already been given a job in January, it was pulled back in April (restructuring), they threw me into a new interview loop for a different role in the same directorate (that truthfully, I wasn’t qualified for and didnt want) but I moved ahead anyway. If I’m being honest, I think this specific directorate is under probably a lot more scrutiny than others and that may have ended up impacting me, which is completely understandable. So maybe it was a blessing in disguise, my next go I can get after really what I want to do. I think there are a lot of changes going on…hiring sounds like it’s just a difficult time.

Have now heard this has happened to multiple people. Extremely odd.

Same directorate? Dont have to say which one, just curious if it’s multiple or not.

No, seems to be across the board. Curious if SCOTUS ruling a few weeks ago is impacting. Second round of VERA as well.

I’ve heard this as well.

Yeah confirmed via multiple sources inside and out, hiring freeze is impacting heavy.

I’ll add an additional data point, as my conditional offer of employment was very recently rescinded.

Jan 2025 - COE

March 2025 - BI

April 2025 - Poly, etc.

July 2025 - Additional Security Interview

July 2025 - COE rescinded, one week after additional security Interview. I’m assuming this was due to suitability, though I’ll never know. I was a little surprised, as the additional security interview went well and no new information was discussed. But …. on to the next one.

Did it happen between the week of July 13-19?
