I have a CJO (conditional on getting my clearance) for a role with ODNI. I’m waiting for a TS/SCI to go through adjudication, but given the instability in that agency, I’ve been applying to other roles, many of which also require TS/SCI. I want to know, if I accept any offers for other clearance-requiring roles, will:
A) Since my clearance process is almost done, will my package be transferred from ODNI to the new agency for completion?
B) Will they wait for ODNI to finish?
C) Will ODNI cancel my clearance two feet from the finish line and the other agency has to start my investigation all over again?
I’ve already been waiting a year and adjudication is the last stage, so I don’t want to jeopardise my clearance when I’m so close to getting it by taking another cleared job offer elsewhere.
you are probably better off staying and let it finish. Just tell the recruiter of the other job you are applying for that you are near the end of the process. That may make it faster for them as well so in their best interest.
I agree with @clearedrob hang in there and wait for it to be finally adjudicated.
How long should I wait before I can assume the clearance won’t go through? I last heard from the security office in April asking about one of my foreign contacts and its been dead silence since then, even when I emailed to ask if my package was even IN adjudication.
They may want to dig a little deeper into the foreign contact and that may move you out of the slow lane into the hey-I-think-we’re-going-backwards lane.

Thing is, I told them that I had cut contact with the person in January, so I don’t know what more they’d have to look into.
You’d be surprised what they think is worth looking into
If I get an offer for a CIA role and tell them I’m near the end of my clearance, would they take over from ODNI, since they do ODNI clearance investigations anyway?
Maybe. But the safe bet is no, they’ll start over since they like to do all their own stuff. But I’m not really sure.
An exaggeration… but only a slight one.
Actually, these days I believe they will re-use as much of the recent investigation as they can. But still, it will probably be treated like a new investigation and not save a whole lot of time just because of all the overhead involved. After all, doing the interviews doesn’t really take much time; its the scheduling and assigning and reviewing and kicking-back and more reviewing and on and on that takes time. Oh yeah and you’ll almost certainly need to fill out a new SF-86 even if NOTHING has changed.
