Extended Hiring Freeze - Pulse Check

Update for everyone - DIA and NGA has dropped new continuous job postings announcements yesterday and today. Seems like we’re almost at the finish line?

I can personally confirm. Hiring has restarted pretty much all across DOD in earnest. Way more new positions than I’ve ever seen before, all continuous and most with Direct Hire Authority.

And just what does that mean exactly? Is it supposed to be faster? For cleared jobs, maybe you can get to the conditional job offer quickly but you’ll still have to wait to get cleared.

Looking at those DIA jobs, I see engineers, computer scientists, data scientists, physical scientist… no general all-source analyst type jobs. NGA doesn’t seem to have any “analyst” type jobs and NSA only has three openings of any kind… no “analyst” jobs here either.

However, CIA has a much broader range of positions listed on their page. Not sure if they were affected as much by the various shutdowns, furloughs and freezes.

Still a ways to go… but at least the wheels are moving again.

In theory it’s faster. I.e you can go from resume submission to interview in just a week or two even. Still to enter the pool and be cleared yeah stuff takes years. If you’re already cleared though I imagine it’s a boon.

Yeah but odds are they’ll want to do a new investigation, or take six months to do a “crossover.”

From what I saw, CIA was not largely effected by the hiring freezes and RIF’s that took place earlier this year. CIA, FBI and DHS were mostly hiring at close to full capacity. Everyone else was impacted. DIA, NGO, NGA, as well as most other agencies did not post new openings or only posted a handful of them for months.

I would like to be hopeful that next year most agencies will start hiring again at full capacity, but that could be some time away from now.

I think most agencies hope to continue to “encourage” senior employees to move on, freeing up slots to hire more entry-level personnel.
