Impact ability to recieve clearance?

I am interested in accepting a job that requires a security clearance which i believe is secrete or top secret they havent shared much details. I was caught shop lifting around 17 years ago when i was 19 or 20 making a bad decision at a sporting goods store. I do not have a record from it but was charged misdemeanor. Will this more than likely prevent granting of clearance? When sf form references firearms if items were related to but not a physical gun make a difference on the ever questions?

If the shop lifting charge is the only thing in your background, I would say your chances are pretty good. It was a long time ago and it was only one incident, which can be mitigated under Guideline E. Which agency are you trying to get a clearance from?

It is with a contractor and know very little about the technology or which department it would actually be tied into for the clearance. Just know it is not weapons since I do not want to work on that kind of technology. Does the department make a difference?

Does the type of items such as ammo or sight laser require disclosure on the EVER question regarding weapons.

I went through a diversion program which is why it never turned to conviction and no criminal type events since.
