Negotiating at FJO?

Hey all,

I received my final offer today (DOD IC). Because it has been 15 months since I applied, I would like to try to negotiate a step increase on the basis of work experience and new skills but I am horrified at the idea of losing my offer. Am I a moron for trying to negotiate now?

Not a moron at all (well, at least not for THIS reason :slight_smile: ) However, the vast majorities of agencies will tell you “take it or leave it.”

I’ve heard of NSA being flexible, especially if you completed a degree in the meantime. Maybe other IC agencies would at least be willing to string you along before saying no. But no agency, not even non-IC agencies, would rescind an offer just for asking (at least I don’t think so :thinking: )

Is the FJO salary the same as the CJO?

I know for a fact that NSA and another agency in Virginia will bump you up a step or so, if you got additional certs while waiting. Happened to me. Not sure if just having more work experience will do much, but it’s worth a shot.

Did you get asked to send an updated resume before the FJO? Usually that is your chance to get a bump.

Cjo was a 7/3. Was offered a 9/3 (I finished my masters during the 15 months). However, because there was no step increase, it made it seem that there was no consideration for new skills or work experience.

I did. They credited for me getting my masters but no additional work experience. Which is strange because they gave me some etra step when I applied over a year ago. And I had almost no related work experience then

Got ya. Well I doubt another bump can be had but still worth a shot, they will prob just tell you no if anything. Work experience might help with the Enhanced Annual Leave (EAL) if you are a first time fed, get closer to the 3 year mark for more accrued time off.

Is this for federal or contract? If contract, you can negotiate all you want. If federal, I’d be extra careful right about now. Also, if you’re highly skilled and qualified, for now, you might be better off with contract work.

Fed. My position is exempted. Is there something else to be concerned with?
