The investigator should not be telling you when the report or investigation is completed.

As of today, I have received a letter from my Senator saying that he has reached out to said Agency on my behalf.
Hopefully this goes quicker than expected.

Three reasons why a federa/federal contract investigator should not be telling the Subject about the case status for anyone:
- the investigator doesn’t know. They only know their portion at best.
- to prevent the Subject from controlling/attempting control of the investigation
- the investigator is not allowed to discuss the case progress/details with anyone outside of the investigation process and can be fired for doing so.

So how soon after having your Senator reach out to said Agency… (which apparently mine already has)… should be expected next?

So if I met with my investigator, and he’s reached out to all of my contacts that I provided already in the same week, will it still take him a month or two to finish my report? Like after meeting with the BI, what happens on their end then?
Someone told me they go find their own references that I did not list. He did tell me that after he completes my report, my file is sent to be adjudicated. I know he doesn’t know the full picture of the process, I am just curious to what happens now on his portion.
@Trey3 I hope you hear something soon! Its great your senator is acting that fast! Don’t you feel better about now waiting now?

A federal background investigation has many moving parts. Your investigator can complete all of his field work, transmit their report, and other parts of your background might still be open for field work.
A big reason for this is how poorly Subject’s fill out their SCA. A lot of field work is added to an individual’s case after the Subject interview because of question self-interpretation, missing information/activities or “bad dates”., I have posted elsewhere many times how often this is an issue.
Once all (every last piece) of the field work from all of the investigators, record searchers, sources, etc, have been reported, every issue has been investigated, with all of the required information- then the case is released to the requesting agency who has your case adjudicated.
The investigator only has their portion of the case. I think many newer investigators think they help Subjects by telling the Subjects that “the case is closing quickly” when the investigator actually means, “my porting of the case is closing quickly”.

@backgdinvestigator sorry, I am not going to bother you all day, I promise, just a bit confused.
If I only lived in one area, and all my references/contacts and etc are in the same area, is it safe to assume I just have one investigator working my case? Hes the one who spoke to all my references. He also had copies of my credit report, and etc etc. He made notes, but we went through the SF86 together and he didnt have any corrections to make from what I could tell. He wrote down my monthly bills, wrote down my professional organizations that I am a member of, and wrote down a bit about my childhood trauma that was already provided in the poly/psych portion. Otherwise, the information on the forms was complete and accurate.

@Batdog123… these are great questions. As we appear to be similar in our experience.
@Batdog123, I am not sure how the answer will help you. Nonetheless, I would not make that assumption. There are so many factors and viables in play.
Just be patient and let the process plays out. You can call the agency (ie: NBIB) that is processing your background investigation in order to inquire into the status.
Don’t get me wrong here, my advice for you, @Trey3, and others will be… just forget the whole process as counting the days can be rather depressing. So, go on and live your lives as you normally would.

@AWoodhull I am just asking out of pure curiosity of the process and what goes on from the opposite side of an applicants processing. If I had any experience, I would be shooting for a recruiter position because I really do find it a bit fascinating. Its interesting to me to get to ask these questions on this forum because they aren’t typical question you could ask your own investigator, you know? So if I am able to bend someones ear, and they dont mind answering, I enjoy taking advantage of that. That’s all
I am also luckily at a great company where I am certainly in no rush to get out of.

Hello everyone, has anyone tried to reach out to a Congressman when they don’t know which agency is conducting their investigation? I am looking for a TS/SCI with a private contractor, so I’m assuming my investigation is with a member of the IC, just not sure who specifically. I asked my security officer who was conducting the investigation, and the response I got was “the customer wants to maintain their privacy”. I thought that was strange but maybe it’s normal for them to not disclose this information.
Anyway, it’s been about 300 days of waiting for me, I wanted to contact my senator about this. But would he be able to make any progress if I can’t give him an agency to contact?
