Quick simple question:
On the SF85 form, if you answer No for any THC usage, will the investigator then check and verify to see if you had a Medical Marijuana card within the last year?

No the investigator is not going to check if you have held a Medical Marijuana card. However if you used, even while prescribed and using a medical marijuana card, you will need to disclose that. It’s not a matter of “what can I get away with” it’s being honest when answering the questions.

The question does not ask if you have a medical marijuana card. It asks if you have used THC at all, regardless of whether or not you have a card, and regardless of whether you live in a legal state or not. Don’t try to skirt around the question and answer it honestly.
