Hey! I’m 22 years old and my job is putting me up for a T5 Secret. I recently discovered that I have less than 10k in debt and I forgot to file my taxes in 23 and 24. I know its no excuse but I had a lot of personal things going on in my life. I have the means to pay off the debt and im working on filing the taxes now. Does anyone know if my chances are low with getting my upgraded status?
That probably depends on what agency this is for (3 letter will grill you about it on interview). But as a rule, not filing your taxes is near the top of their “uh uh, no way, no how” list. You would need a better explanation than, ”oops, silly me and my bad memory.” Pay it off before you submit for the TS. At least then you can say you’ve matured since it happened, you learned your lesson and don’t expect that to happen again.
Im woking on paying it off now, the total amount of fed taxes i owe is less than 1k. I think combined in total I owe about 2k.
