I was recently let go from my federal job while on probation (2 weeks from it ending) due to “my skills not being a fit for the job.” Do I lose my security clearance and capability to work for the federal government again? Also, does anyone know what to expect after if they have been in a situation like this?
Alright first question, do you know if your clearance was adjudicated. If it was adjudicated, then there is a good chance that you will keep your clearance. If you only had an interim and you were still waiting for a final adjudication, then your clearance probably went to a loss of jurisdiction.
A loss of jurisdiction occurs when a clearance holder needs to have their clearance adjudicated, but they are not working in a job that needs a clearance when it comes to make a final determination on their clearance. If your clearance is placed in loss of jurisdiction, it gets tricky. Some clearance holders can get this resolved by having a FSO make CSR in DISS and their clearance gets fixed, while other clearance holders have to fill out a new SF-86.
So far you have not lost your ability to work for the federal government as a whole, but you may not be able to be rehired at your last agency.
Correct me if im wrong, but does the CSR request in DISS only happen after the year period is done after Denial. I know in my case, my FSO did a CSR request thru DOD but seeing that the agency who denied me, NSA hasn’t even got the paperwork sorted out in over a month for my SOR, i’m concerned if i get let go, i will go into LOJ.
Yes, it was adjudicated, and okay thank you for the information. Feel free to share more!
It it already Finally adjudicated, not an interim, you are good to go.
You can try applying to contractor positions in the meantime so that you can keep your clearance.
To the best of my knowledge, the CSR can be submitted at any time (I am not certain about this). If you leave your current position, then your clearance would go into loss of jurisdiction since you have a pending SOR. Stay in your current position until the SOR can get cleared up. Do you know when your next PR is?
I just got my most recent PR adjudicated by DOD in may under CE.
I was applying for a partime job at NSA and they denied me in june. This triggered a suspension in DISS from Scattered castles for my current job. There are no incident reports in system and DCSA hasnt even recieved the SOR yet. Nor have i. It’s really dumb.
i’ve had a TS since 2004.
Will this look bad on my record or hurt my chances landing a position with a contractor?
It is time for you to get an attorney. I would recommend Alan Edmunds, because he deals with suspensions and denials from NSA and CIA, as well as the rest of the government. NSA should be the one giving you the SOR not DCSA, since DCSA and NSA do their own adjudications. Are you still currently working in a job that requires a security clearance?
In addition, there would be no incident reports in DISS since the denial happened in Scattered Castles and Scattered Castles and DISS do not “talk” to each other.
I’m no longer “working” but still employed by the contractor. They are waiting on DCSA to adjudicate me but they can’t wait forever. I’ve had contractors hold me on their books before just to keep clearance “active” so hopefully they do something like that. I knew that SC and DISS to talk which is why i am confused why this even came up. Maybe because NSA is part of DOD. It’s so dumb that the DOD CAF doesn’t even know why they are suspending me though. This very same issue happened to me when i was on a CIA contract overseas and my DOD clearance side was never affected. These “issues” are so minor, write ups and argument with a customer at an autozone in 2016 and write up in 2018 for an army contract. None were security related.
Most contractors (90%) do not ask about previous job terminations on their applications, but a few do. If you are being considered for a position with a contractor company, the recruiter screen may ask why you left your last job. Overall, it should not kill your chances of getting a contractor job.
The only time I know in which you will be required to report your termination, is when you have fill out your next SF-86. If you fill out another SF-86, only the company’s FSO would see what you put on the form and not the rest of the company.
