I currently have a S and should be renewing to a TS I’m in the process of completing my SF86 form. How can I determine whether the SF86 is for an S or TS clearance? My understanding is that all the questions should cover a 10-year span, but I’ve noticed several questions asking about events “in the last seven (7) years.”
Not all questions cover a 10 year time span. Be sure to read the instructions on the form carefully. Some questions are 7 years, some are 10 and some are EVER.
So if you traveled overseas 7 years and 6 months ago, there is no need to list it. (personal pet peeve as I had a gentleman once list his travel for 20 years.)
If you are completing an SF86 it’s most likely for a T/S but not always.

I recently went from S to TS. I saw no difference with the SF-86. In fact, I am pretty sure if there were a difference then the form number would also be different.

Secret and TS both use the SF86.
Public trust and lower use the SF85.

I meant to type SF 86. I fat fingered the 5 instead of 6.
