Will my relatives' behavior affect my security clearance?

Can negative behavior from close relatives, like mom or dad, affect your security clearance? Let’s say your mother married an American in order to get a US citizenship, or your girlfriend is an undocumented alien, etc…

The short answer is yes, there is a potential for immediate family members who are engaged in illegal conduct to affect your clearance. It just depends on what it is, what your involvement is, what potential future involvement might be, etc…Each case is different and judged on its own merits.

Hi, so for the example of the mother marrying an American to get a US citizenship. If this happened when I was a child, say 11 years old. Can this affect the clearance? I did not have anything to do with it, and there is no future involvement.

It is not illegal per se, and no way of anyone to find out during a background investigation.
