I don’t have any convictions or anything on my record, however, when applying for a local sheriff’s department, I did disclose unreported crimes I committed when I was young (tagging, drinking under age, grocery store shoplifting).
For other future job background checks, will the sheriff’s department share this information I disclosed with them? Again, otherwise my report is clean.
No I have never been charged or convicted, all these crimes were unreported and I never had an interaction with any authorities.
When applying for the sheriff’s, they ask if you’ve ever committed any of the following even if you weren’t charged or convicted or the instances went unknown. Even though these instances when I was young were never known to have occurred by the authorities, I let my background investigator know as directed by the investigation questions.
What I’m wondering:
Will the sheriff’s department add these instances (but never charged/convicted or even known) that I disclosed to my record?
Let me know if you need further clarification. Thank you
If the Sheriff’s is one of your employments then an employment record will be obtained and sources talked to. I cannot tell you what information these leads may divulge and neither can anyone else. If we knew in advance what the results of our investigations would be there would be no need for an investigation. We will ask some specific questions but will also give an opportunity to the record provider and any source who is interviewed to add additional information that was not specifically asked. For example: “Does the record reflect any information we have not already discussed?” or “Is there any information we have not discussed that you feel like may be relevant to the investigation?”
